  • 🐀 FROM RATS TO RESERVE: 30k hectares of the Caribbean island Redonda have been designated as the Redonda Ecosystem Reserve after environmental groups addressed invasive species, restored natural vegetation biomass by 2k%, and removed 6k rats. With wild species of birds and lizards returning, Redonda hopes to be a shining light, "encouraging other nations to replicate the model elsewhere and let biodiversity bounce back."

  • 🛣️ ROAD ECOLOGY: It's estimated that more than 25M miles of roads will be constructed globally by 2050. With 1M+ animals killed on U.S. roads every year, "wildlife ecologists and engineers are searching for ways to integrate the needs of wildlife into their design." A new book by environmentalist Ben Goldfarb examines the need for the creation of "wildlife-friendly" infrastructure.

  • 🦫 BABY BEAVER: For the first time in 400 years, a baby beaver has been spotted in London. Thought to have been driven to near extinction through hunting and urbanization, beavers have been part of recent rewilding campaigns, and “ultimately, the goal is to help the beavers establish themselves over a 10-acre area in west London.”

Human Health

  • 🍬 FOOD DYE BAN: California became the first U.S. state to ban four chemical food additives. Effective in 2027, California will prohibit "the manufacturing, distribution and sale of food and beverages that contain brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben and red dye 3," found in popular candies, fruit juices, cookies, and sodas. Each one is linked to harmful effects on human health, like cancer.

  • 🧋 HOLD THE TEA: Could a popular sugar-sweetened milk tea drink— like bubble tea— be affecting youth mental health? In a new Chinese study, over 5k study participants self-reported "depressive, anxiety symptoms, suicidal ideation, and milk tea addiction symptoms.” The market for milk tea has a compound annual growth rate exceeding 20%, and “these drinks could be addictive and damaging in the same way as social media or drugs,” reports Science Alert.

  • 👣 ANCIENT FOOTPRINTS: Check out this photo of footprints discovered on the edge of an ancient lake in New Mexico, dating back 21k-23k years ago. This massive discovery is "probably the oldest direct evidence of human presence in the Americas, a finding that upends what many archaeologists thought they knew."

The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

🌟 Your cheat-code for the “Master Antioxidant”

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant found in every cell of your body. It’s made up of three amino acids: cysteine, glycine, and glutamic acid.

Glutathione has many important functions, including:

  • Protecting cells from damage. Neutralizes free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage cells.

  • Boosting the immune system. Helps white blood cells fight off infection.

  • Detoxifying the body. Helps to remove toxins from the body, such as heavy metals and pesticides.

  • Repairing cells. Helps to repair damaged cells and tissues.

  • Reducing inflammation. Major anti-inflammatory properties.

Boosting your glutathione levels may lead to health benefits like:

  • Reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease.

  • Improving liver function, especially in people with conditions such as fatty liver disease and hepatitis.

  • Reducing the severity of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

  • Improving mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.

  • Slowing down the aging process. Increasing glutathione levels may help to slow down aging.

Trivia Answer:

Mycorrhiza

Explanation: Mycorrhiza is the term for the intricate symbiotic relationship between plant roots and underground fungal filaments. This association benefits both parties, with the fungus assisting the plant in nutrient and water absorption while receiving sugars from the plant. Mycorrhizal networks are essential in many ecosystems, promoting plant health and nutrient cycling in soils.
